Adding Emergency Numbers in FortiVoice Enterprise

This recipe guides you through the process of establishing an emergency contact number for your office.

An emergency call, such as 911 in North America, is first routed to a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point). The PSAP will look up the ANI (calling number) from ALI-DB (Automatic Location Information Database) to determine the caller’s physical address. The ALI-DB is updated by the PSTN service provider when a customer subscribes its trunk service. The record in the ALI-DB should be a mapping between a phone number (or trunk) and its physical address. For each emergency call, the PBX is responsible for setting the correct ANI for the PSAP.

Configuring the Emergency Number

  1. Go to Phone System > Settings > Location.
  2. Select your country from the Country dropdown menu and select Apply.
  3. Go to Call Routing > Outbound > Outbound.
  4. Select New.
  5. Enter the name of the dial plan and select Emergency Call so that the FortiVoice unit bypasses the privilege check and gives the call the highest priority.
  6. Select New in the Call Handling section and then select an Outgoing trunk or a Caller ID modification profile.
  7. Select Create and then select Create again.
